Elliott, Donald Bruce 87, Electrical Engineer, died Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Riverside Christian Church. Burial will follow at 11:30 A.M., at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, KS. Preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes; brother, Johnny K. Elliott; sisters, Elaine Elliott, Joan Sundgren. Survived by his wife, Laurene Voorhees Elliott of Wichita; sister, Suzanne (Rick) Rickenberg of Hesston, KS; many nieces and nephews. Donald B. Elliott was born in WaKeeney, KS on the 17th of June 1928. After graduation from WaKeeney High School, Don attended Bethany College for one year at Lindsborg, KS, taking pre-engineering. Don enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. After spending 3.5 years in the Air Force, a year and a half of which was spent in Tripoli, Libya, Don was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Don graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1957. Don worked 35 years at the Boeing Company. He worked in the military division on B-52, B-1, and B-2 bomber defense systems. He also worked on Boeing 707, 727, and 747 electronic systems. Don later worked in support equipment design, concentrating mainly on automated test equipment. In 1959, Don married Agnes Skolout. They spent many happy years together until she passed away in December 2002. Don is past president of the Wichita Professional Engineering Society and the Sunflower Clockwatchers antique watch and clock club. He is also past vice-president of the Keywinders antique clock and watch club in Sun City, AZ. In 1995, Don was the chairman of the Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona Regional Antique Clock and Watch Convention held at the Hilton Inn in Wichita, KS. In 1998 and 1999, Don was president of the Sun City Rose and Garden Club. His hobbies included antique watch and clock collecting and repair, coin collecting, antique cars, and flying. Don learned to fly in the late 1960s, was a licensed pilot, obtained an instrument rating, and owned his own plane. Don married Laurene Ann Voorhees on May 8, 2010. They enjoyed traveling together and he continued to enjoy his winters in Sun City, AZ for many years. Memorials have been established with Riverside Christian Church, 1001 N.
