Donald Lewis Manson
December 5, 1926 ~ June 28, 2012
Manson, Donald Lewis, 85; After a long illness, Our Lord called Don to his heavenly home on June 28, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family. Rosary is 7:00 pm Monday at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary and Funeral Mass is 10:00 am Tuesday at Church of the Magdalen. Born December 5, 1926, Don served in the US Army during WWII. Upon completion of his studies at Kansas State University, he began his career in 1951 as a consulting mechanical engineer, retiring in 1999. As president of Manson SA Engineering, Don designed mechanical systems for many schools, hospitals, commercial and civic buildings, including Exploration Place, and was a past president of ASHRAE. He was blessed with 62 years of marriage to the love of his life, Del (Marie Adele). With Del as his caregiver for the past 2 years, Don experienced the ultimate meaning of unselfish, compassionate, and devoted love. Their marriage serves as a model and inspiration to their large family and to all who know them. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Lee Manson and sister Virginia McPherson. He is survived by his wife, Del Manson and six children; Denise (Skip) Claycamp, Darice Ingle, Don (Becky) Manson II, Dennis (Jill) Manson, Dan Manson, Dorine (Derk) Brittain, all of Wichita, KS; 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dons devotion to his family earned their love and respect, and they will miss his wit and trademark sense of humor, but most of all, the example he set for them. Special thanks go to Juanita Thatcher and Faye Thompson of Progressive Hospice. Memorial to: Church of the Magdalen, of which Don was a longtime member.
