Donna Sue (Engelbert) Crowley was born in Kingman, Kansas on March 27, 1956 to Carolyn and Robert Engelbert. Donna went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Donna, the third of five siblings, attended Pratt High School before relocating to Augusta, Kansas, for her senior year. At the age of 12, she had a dream of becoming a nurse, a passion she pursued at Wichita’s St. Joseph School of Nursing after completing classes at Butler County Community College. It was at St. Joseph's campus that her eyes met Dean Crowley, her future husband of 45 years. Their serendipitous meeting during a nursing celebration marked the beginning of a lifelong journey together. From a memorable first dance to the unexpected introduction of a BMW motorcycle, Donna and Dean's love story unfolded with spontaneity and joy. Donna and Dean married in May 1979, and soon welcomed fraternal twin daughters, Candace Sue and Crystal Marie. Two years later, she gave birth to their beloved son, Kevin Alan Crowley, in 1982. Donna's dedication extended beyond her family to a distinguished career as a surgical nurse, spanning over six years at Wesley Medical Center and more than twenty-six years at the Wichita Clinic's day surgery department. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Donna was a skilled seamstress, quilt maker, and avid crafter. Her green thumb manifested in a vast collection of cacti and succulents, each nurtured with care and adorned with her extensive knowledge. Donna's love for books, especially historical fiction, filled her library, and her passion for family history was expressed through meticulous scrapbooking. Donna was a faithful servant of Christ. Her unwavering devotion to family, combined with a strong moral character, left a lasting impact. Despite facing breast cancer in 2017 and again in January 2023, Donna exemplified grace, strength, and an inner peace derived from her deep relationship with Christ. Donna is preceded in death by her father, Robert Eugene Engelbert; brother, Robert Engelbert, Jr. Donna is survived by her husband, Dean Crowley; daughter, Crystal (Brent) Hanson and their children, Ethan, Evan, and Emma; daughter, Candace (Jessie) Gatto, and their children, Blake, Luke, Easton, Nico, Landen, and Kyla; son, Kevin (Jenae) Crowley and their children, Caleb, Noah, and Calla; mother, Carolyn Bernadine Engelbert; sisters, Debra (Bruce) Tanner, Diann (Rex) Zimmerman; brother, Larry Engelbert. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Donna was dear to me as a caring, kind, and skilled nurse as we shared laughter, tears, frustrations, losses, and successes together in operating rooms across many long years. But she was especially dear as a friend who was always encouraging and gentle. I regret that miles and years have separated us, but I am grieving for myself and her family today, but rejoicing that she is celebrating her victory in Christ.
Dean & family, I’m so sorry for your loss.
In loving memory of my friend,
Cheryl Brandt RN (former), Wesley, Wichita Clinic, Via Christi Founders’ Circle

  2. Dean, Candace & Crystal, Kevin and families, Our deepest sympathies goes out to you all. Donna was a beautiful, loving friend who we shared many special memories together during the kids growing up and beyond. Heaven gained a very special soul who blessed our lives beyond measure.
