Donna Hicks

February 2, 1960 ~ March 20, 2020
Donna Elizabeth (Relph) Hicks was born February 02, 1960. A joyful soul from the beginning, she filled our hearts with countless fond memories, the most indelible by far being her bright smile. Taking on health obstacles from a young age truly formed Donna’s gifts of patience and perseverance. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 7, she beat the odds and lived a full, rich life. A life filled with wonderful childhood memories, family get-togethers and close friendships. She truly spread hope and happiness wherever she went.
In 1984, she met her future husband Joe and began their life together. Married on her 25th birthday in 1985, Donna cherished being a wife and mother more than anything. Having two daughters, Holly and Katy, brought fulfillment she never thought possible with her diabetes.
She dedicated her professional career to helping others, working at various health clinics and therapy offices, always putting others first and leading them on the right path. She was a working mother most of her life, with her most fulfilling role coming at the Spiritual Life Center here in Wichita. Faith was such an important part of Donna’s life and to have that carry through both her family life and workplace was truly a blessing.
Far stronger than most realized, Donna was a fighter. She never let health issues get in the way or let others know her challenges. She always had a smile on her face, a laugh to share and a sense for knowing when to offer the strength you needed. Later in life, she was able to experience an even deeper level of joy and happiness through her three grandchildren. Loving bonds and lasting memories were made with Grandma Donna, which allows her spirit to live on through them for many years to come.
Donna adored her family, surrounding herself with love and joy every day. She felt blessed to be part of a such a large family - parents who adored her, a loving and devoted husband of 35 years, two children, a son-in-law, three grandchildren, seven siblings, and countless nieces and nephews.
At this time, we celebrate her fighting spirit and her sunny smile, resting in the comfort that, “Those we love truly never leave us, they live in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives.”
Donna died Friday, March 20, 2020. Private Family Services. Preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Rose Relph. To my family, Joe, Holly and Katy, I love you all so much and I am thinking and praying for you all. Sharon, Russell and Rylan
Your smile and laugh will remain in my heart forever, Aunt Donna. I always loved hearing you tell the story about watching Tom and I when you and Joe took us to McDonalds. Tom insisted on trying the hot mustard dipping sauce. You would always laugh so hard. You were a brave warrior and took every battle God gave you with strength and conviction. Thank you for the wonderful memories… rest easy. The battle is over and I know you are in the arms of your parents again. Love you!
So very sorry for your loss. God Bless all of you in this time of sorrow. Janae’ Z
