Donna J. Millard, 77, died peacefully at the Wichita Presbyterian Manor, Tuesday, August 13, 2013, after a long illness. Visitation with the family, 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 15, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Service, 11 a.m., Friday, August 16, Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Graveside service, 1 p.m., Saturday, August 17, Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, KS. Donna was born September 20, 1935, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the only child of Harold and Inez Brage. She moved with her parents to Kansas City, Kansas, when she was 5 years old. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold Millard; children, Michael Millard (Tisha) of Cypress, TX and Shari Pike (Jeff) of Wichita; grandchildren, Alex and Adam Millard of Cypress, TX, Austin and Allyson New of Clearwater, FL and Connor Pike (Shannon) of Okinawa, Japan. Donna graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she met her husband to be, Harold Millard. During their years of marriage, they lived in Augusta, GA, Kansas City, KS, Jefferson City, MO, Chicago, IL, Cincinnati and Cleveland, OH. Before moving to Wichita, both Donna and Harold retired in 1990 from the Internal Revenue Service where Donna was employed as a tax auditor. Until her health deteriorated, Donna spent her retirement years volunteering at the Sedgwick County Zoo. She also had a passion for knitting and parents of newborns of family and friends would be blessed with a handcrafted baby blanket. She was a longtime active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she served on several committees that included missions, records management and caregiving. She also introduced the long-running Christmas pageant entitled “The Search For The Christ Child” to Aldersgate UMC.
