Dorothy Jeannette Brake, 89, passed away November 23, 2020 at Park West Plaza nursing home, Wichita, KS. She was born November 11, 1931 in Kinsley, KS to Joseph and Mathilda (Hirsh) Brake. Dorothy went to school at Windthorst and graduated from high school there in 1949. She attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology in 1963. From there she worked as a Lab Technician for many years. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and has always had a very giving generous heart. She enjoyed being with family at holidays and always went back to Kinsley during harvest. She rarely missed a wedding, anniversary or any other family celebration. Perhaps one of Dorothy’s talents was finding a bargain. She loved going to garage sales, estate sales, and craft shows where she always seemed to find treasures for family members - at great prices of course. Dorothy also had a knack for decorating. She loved to decorate for all seasons, holidays, and for anything else she could find a reason to decorate for. She enjoyed her beanie babies and had quite a collection, but she would let you know, the beanie bears were her favorite. Dorothy is survived by brothers, Melvin Brake of Kinsley, Leander Brake of Wichita, and Mark (Glora, deceased) Brake of Kinsley KS, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thomas Brake and Wilfred Brake, and sister-in-law, Maxine Brake. Rosary will be at 10:00 am with a Funeral Mass following at 10:30 am Friday, November 27, 2020 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Wichita, KS. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, Kinsley, KS. A memorial has been established with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1321 N. Stratford, Wichita, KS 67206. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
