Douglas L. Herman

January 12, 1943 ~ June 13, 2024
Douglas L. Herman, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on June 13, 2024. He was much loved by all. Doug lived most of his adult life in Wichita KS with his wife, Pat. They owned and ran Variety Wallpaper for 32 years. When he decided to retire from Variety, he thought being outside and taking care of landscapes would be fun. We could always find him on his Walker mower staying busy mowing, moving firewood, or grading the road. Fishing and spending Sunday evenings with family having fun and BBQing were favorite past times. He very much loved building and fixing things while tinkering in his wood shop. Their home is full of Doug-made wood pieces that are functional and beautiful. And elephants. Elephants from all around the globe have been gifted to Doug from friends and family. He loved elephants.Doug’s parents, Celeste and Leonard, and many aunts, uncles and cousins predeceased him. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Pat; and children, Christine (Dorrin) Allsman and Michael (Julie) Herman; brother, Larry (Ingrid) Herman; sisters, Lois Burdick and Annette Herman; grandchildren, Dustin (Katie), Rachel and Zachary Herman. Graveside Service will be held at Ascension Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 17, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the AA Place for Dogs, P.O. A living tree will honor your memory Doug . Will miss your friendship.
You will be missed!
We met Doug when we bought the cabin on his land 15 years ago. He has been such a friend every since.. I learned alot from him and we’ve had alot of laughs together. We will miss him dearly. So sorry for pat and family . He was such a good man. Condolences. Doug and Sheila McClintock.
We send our deepest condolences to Pat and family. We got to know Doug and Pat at Variety Wallpaper a number of years ago, both as customers and as a wallpaper hanger (English Wallcovering). Tim got quite a lot of business there, and he remembers taking Michael along a few times as a helper. It was always enjoyable to chat with Doug (and Pat, too) — such nice folks! We missed them when they retired, but were happy for them to have time for other things in life. Doug will be missed by many!
