Duane Stephen Bookout

September 9, 1966 ~ March 26, 2023
Duane Stephen Bookout, 56, met his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Duane was born the second of five children to Irene Lies and Larry Bookout in Blackwell, OK on September 9, 1966.
Duane met the love of his life, Anita, at Chisholm Trail Elementary School. Duane and Anita enjoyed 24 years of marriage together and had their daughter, Adrian. He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
Aside from his family, Duane’s greatest devotion was to the military. Duane participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a soldier in the United States Army National Guard for over two decades. When Duane left the military with the rank of E5 Sergeant, he returned to his first passion in the school system. Starting from the age of 15, Duane worked his way up to his most recent position as Head Custodian at College Hill Elementary. He loved spending time with the children in his school, going above and beyond to make sure his school and its students were well cared for. He had a passion for helping people and he was able to do that in the school district of USD 259.
Duane had many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, friend. His greatest gift was storytelling. He was ornery and had a talent of finding trouble, which in turn gave him many stories to talk about. He loved to make people laugh and smile with frequent tricks and jump scares for shock value. Mostly though, Duane had a heart for people in need. He spent his time looking for ways to help others anyway he could. Often, he recognized needs that were unseen by others.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Lureta Bookout as well as Frank and Sadie Footracer; his niece, Kitty Taylor and nephew, Zack Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Anita (Rausch) Bookout; his child, Adrian (Nick) Carter; his mother, Irene Lies; his father, Larry Bookout; and his siblings, LaDonna (Ronnie) Moon, Ronald Bookout, Karen (Doug) Krapf, and Curtis Begay.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00pm, Friday, March 31, 2023, At Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Pathway Church - Westlink Campus, 2001 N Maize Rd. Interment will follow at Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside Avenue.

Karen and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers to all of you.
I worked with Duane at Buckner Elementary many years ago. I remember his big smile and upbeat attitude. He was a hard worker and he was kind to students and adults. My condolences to Duane’s family and friends.

I knew Duane and Anita at Chisholm Trail. I’m happy to say I got to see the whole family at a 4th of July party less than 2 years ago. At the party, he immediately gave me a big hug. Duane was always smiling. He was such a likable person. My heart breaks for Anita and Adrian.
Rest Duane, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army National Guard, 20 plus years.
I am so very sorry to hear about Duane’s passing. He was a very nice man and a wonderful custodian. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. God Bless!
