Dr. Earl David Kirk Jr., age 92, beloved father and husband, died at his residence due to natural causes on March 31, 2026.
Born on January 26, 1934 in Wichita to Earl David Kirk Sr. and Ival Mary Kirk, he attended East High School, Wichita State University and joined the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps while earning his college degree. He was a gifted baseball player and gave up an offer to join a minor league team in order to enroll at University of Kansas Medical School. He earned his medical degree in 1962. His medical training was followed by proudly serving as a General Medical Officer at Sandia Base U.S. Army Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He received a Certificate of Achievement from the Defense Atomic Support Agency Headquarters Field Command for his exceptional performance of duty. After completing his military service, he settled into his Internal Medicine and Geriatrics practice which spanned multiple decades. As a skilled medical practitioner, he was held in high esteem by his patients and colleagues alike. Also, he was invited to be an honored guest at a Kansas City Royals baseball game several years ago and threw the ceremonial first pitch.
Dr. Kirk is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Kirk; his sons, David Kirk, Dr. John Kirk, and Dr. Kevin Kirk; his seven grandchildren. His youngest son, Stephen Kirk, died last year.
