Edgar S. Curry

Edgar S. Curry passed away on June 30, 2018. Beloved father, husband, and brother, he was a towering example of what a man could be. Buddy could usually be found in the garden or the greenhouse, endlessly intrigued by nature and its infinite variety. Born in 1942, he spent his childhood in College Hill. As a youth he headed for the West Coast to attend Menlo School and USC, followed by a move to San Francisco to embrace the Sixties and a masters at SF State. Influenced by travels to Mexico, Buddy returned to Kansas with an idea for a special kind of restaurant. He opened the fruity and fragrant Squeezers Palace first in Wichitas Riverside neighborhood, and then in Lawrencepopular destinations to meet up with friends for a Frozen Banana, a Speed Freeze, or a Peaches and Cream Whip. Mr. Curry was a beekeeper, an investor, a builder, a flutist, and a lover of literature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan (Stewart) and Edwin Curry. Survivors include wife, Kim; sons Andrew Herr and Dexter; daughter Olivia; sister Brenda Redfern (Doug); nephews James Redfern (Gina), Benjamin Eisenbise (Sirena), and Hendrix Lovett; and niece Margaret Eisenbise. His priorities were family and friends, and his absence will be hard to bear. Private service. A memorial has been established with the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, P. O. Box 80, Papaikou, Hawaii, 96781.

My heart goes out to all the family. I can just hear him telling me all about his succulents in his greenhouse and hearing his wonderful laugh. Hell be missed by so many.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Edgar Curry was a gentleman, a wit, a bon vivant, and a charming person. There are few like him and, though I hadnt seen him in years, knowing he does not still grace the Earth makes me infinately sad. My sincere condolences to his dear family.
Buddy Curry was a truly unique individual and his presence will be missed on this earth. I had not seen him in many years and was unaware that he had a family but my heart is sad for them.
I last saw Edgar about 30 years ago and swam in his round pool surrounded by hedges. We met when he was at Menlo School. His aura has spread far, and I am glad to have know him briefly.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
