Sullivan, Sr., Edward J., 85, died Thursday, January 04, 2007. Rosary 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 7 and Funeral Mass 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 8, both at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Andover. Burial will be Wednesday, January 10 at the St. Marys Cemetery, Storm Lake, IA. Edward James Sullivan was born October 11, 1921 in Storm Lake, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Appleton, Minnesota, graduating in 1938 from Appleton High School at age 16. Following service in the National Guard, he joined the US Army, transferred to the Air Corp and became a B-17 bomber pilot at age 21. Before joining the war theatre, Mr. Sullivan married Gloria J. Smith, his hometown sweetheart, during training in Seabring, FL on March 19, 1943. He was held as a POW for 16 months in Germany before liberation in May, 1945. Following the war, he attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a BS and MS in aeronautical engineering in 1949. Mr. Sullivan continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve and retired as Lt. Colonel after 21 years. He worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in both Seattle and Wichita retiring after 33 years in 1983. Throughout his life, Mr. Sullivan was an active volunteer at his church, St. Vincent de Paul serving in a leadership role in the Parish Council and as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He and Gloria enjoyed traveling and worked enthusiastically on the family genealogy. Preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Ann Sullivan, parents Edward and Mary Sullivan and sisters Dorothy Baridon and Helen Bowie. Survivors include wife Gloria, sons; Edward J. Sullivan Jr. of Wichita, Timothy B. Sullivan of Cheyenne, WY and Michael T. Sullivan of Wichita; daughter; Mary Lynn Flatt of Geelong, Victoria, Australia; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 123 N. Andover Rd, Andover, KS 67202
