Edward J. Voss, beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed into eternal rest at 6:45 am on January 15, 2026.  Ed was born March 15, 1943, to Raymond and Lorraine Voss in Hospers, IA.  After growing up as the oldest son on a farm near Sibley, IA, he attended Iowa State where he earned bachelor degrees in civil and architectural engineering. He was then commissioned as an officer in the Construction Battalion (Seabee) in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam.  While stationed in Newport RI, Lieutenant Junior Grade Edward Voss met Claire Larabee. They married on October 2nd, 1971.  After finishing his service in Guam, Ed and Claire moved to Wichita, KS then to Greenville, South Carolina where they had Joseph Edward.  The family moved to Bartlesville, OK for one year before moving back to Wichita where they added Daniel Raymond and David Michael. Ed worked for Utility Contractors until 1981 and then began work at Sherwood Construction, where he became a vice president. Between Sherwood and Wildcat construction, Ed constructed numerous bridges throughout Kansas leaving his mark on most of the major highways in Kansas but more so on the people with whom he worked. The construction workers used to say, “Ed is a strange boss. He actually cares and is willing to work himself.” His last job before retirement in 2011 was the Kellogg and Rock Rd. underpass.

Following his devoted work ethic, Ed never stopped helping with any project in the community. Whether it was selling Christmas trees for the St. Pat’s men’s club, umpiring for baseball, distributing equipment for AYSO soccer, being a Scout leader for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, installing a bell for the Church, mowing neighbors’ lawns, or just shoveling snow for the elderly, he never stopped helping. His great loves were taking his family on great adventures including camping, sailing, snow skiing, and taking his wife to her beloved beaches. He saw his two oldest sons get married and his youngest ordained to the Catholic priesthood. He welcomed 6 granddaughters and 1 grandson into the family. He will be greatly missed by his beloved family, his amazing friends, his beloved parish of St. Patrick’s, the construction community, and countless souls that he touched. To this day, his youngest son will meet new people in the Catholic community and they say, “You’re Ed Voss’s son. Your dad is so good.” Now they’ll say, “We miss him so much.” Ed’s medical care was in the hands of Oxford Grand Wichita and Bridgehaven in Lawrence. Many thanks to all of the staff that worked so diligently for him in his last years.

Ed is preceded in eternal rest by his parents, Raymond and Lorraine Voss, his step-mother, Madge Voss, Claire Voss, his beloved wife of 50 years, and his 2 brothers-in-law, Denny Rose and Raymond Larabee. He is survived by his sons Joseph, married to Heather (Farrand), Daniel, married to Cathy (Montbriand), and Fr. David. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kylie, Avery, Zoey, Chloe, Abigail, Max, and MacKenzie. The Visitation and Rosary will be Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 7 pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wichita, KS, and the funeral will be Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11 am also at St. Patrick’s.
