Edward “Ray” Overlie, went to the airplane drafting table in the sky at the age of 75. He passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) on Friday February 1, 2013 in Wichita. He was born on February 24, 1937 in Pasco, Washington to Edward M. and Hannah M. Overlie. Ray grew up in Washington along with his younger brother, Bob. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1960 with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering. On December 12, 1964, he married Margie E. Ensign. During his career of 42 years, he received many awards for his engineering contributions at Boeing, Learjet, and Bombardier. Ray and Marge moved to Wichita from Bellevue, Washington in 1972. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he was known for his talents and interests in many areas. He loved traveling, visiting family, friends, lighthouses, museums and the ocean. He was well known for his talent in woodworking, was an avid reader, and took great joy in his 7 grandchildren. All those that knew Ray appreciated not only his intelligence, but his sense of humor. Ray was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marge; sons, Tim of Wichita, Eric (Angie) of Littleton, CO, and Joe (Jenny) of Broomfield, CO; grandchildren, Hannah, Alex, Maddison, Noah, Trent, Brodie and Gabe; brother, Bob (Linda) of Seattle, WA, and their son, John. He will be deeply missed. Rosary, 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 5; Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the ALS Association, Keith Worthington Chapter, 3450 N. Rock Rd., S-211, Wichita, KS 67226. Downing Lahey Mortuary West.
