She graduated from Valley Center High School and attended Business Preparatory School at Wichita University. On March 28, 1942, Ellie married Eugene A. “Gene” Brooks with whom she shared 61 wonderful years and raised two sons. Ellie was a devoted mother and wife, a superb homemaker, a volunteer to many organizations including the Ladies Board of HCA Wesley Medical Center, various ladies groups at Eastminster Church, the Wichita Boys Civic Choir, and a member in good standing of the Wichita PEO Chapter I. Her life revolved around her family, her friends and her love of playing cards, especially bridge. She especially loved spending time with her four grandsons and snapping photos to share with all her friends. In August 2001, Ellie realized one of her lifes desires when twin great-granddaughters entered the family. We will miss our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as she took such good care of all of us. She taught us so many things about life, love and the importance of family. We now take joy in knowing she is finally reunited with Gene in heaven. Preceding her in death: parents, Edward and Clara Frey; brothers, Howard “Bud”, Stuart and Edward II, sister, Clarabell “CB” and her husband, Eugene A. “Gene” Brooks. Survivors: sons, Dr. Randy Brooks of Overland Park, KS and Dr. Scott and wife, Vicki Brooks of Wichita; grandsons, Tyler and wife, Lisa Brooks of Wichita, Zachary Brooks of Overland Park, KS, Aaron and wife, Molly Brooks of Los Angeles, CA and Douglas Brooks of Overland Park, KS; twin great-granddaughters, Libby and Lauren Brooks of Wichita; sister, Eileen and husband, Charles Cody of Ardmore, OK; several nieces, nephews and friends. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Hello Brooks Family, We know how you will miss your lovely mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. We have not visited with her for years, but remember her and Gene well. They were both special people in our lives. It is disappointing for us that we cannot be there to honor her and visit with you tonight or tomorrow. We will be thinking about you. Sincerely, Tricia and Dean Hanning

  2. Scott & Vicki: So sorry to read about the passing of your mother. The couple of times I met her and your Dad, they were very gracious and friendly. I hope all of your memories are ‘funny’ ones and know that prayers are being said for you and your family, for comfort and strength at this time. p.s. What a nice write up about your MOM.

  3. I met Ellie Brooks in the late 90’s at Lady of Lourdes Rehab. Center. I was in because of an MS attack; she became my roommate and friend while recovering from a stroke. We shared stories and found out we had lots in common. We both attended Eastminster Church, knew Dick Gorham and ate some of our meals together. My, how she loved Gene – her face would light up whenever he was able to come by for a visit. Vicki came everyday to check on her . I think of her often and fondly. She now has peace. She was a lovely lady and I’m so glad I got to meet her. God Bless you.

  4. Thinking of you all during this time…know we are with you in spirit and you are in our thoughts, hearts and prayers. Blessings on you all…..what a beautiful, new angel is flying in Heaven now…..Eleanor…….God Bless!
