Emma “Emmie” Elizabeth Stockemer, 86, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015. Rosary, 7 p.m., Sunday, January 18; Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Monday, January 19, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. The Graveside Service will follow at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery at St. Mark. “Emmie” was a loving mother, friend and neighbor who was always willing to help anyone in need. Emma loved gardening, cultivating flowers, crocheting and knitting for family, friends and the homeless. Growing up in the 1930s on a farm near Mt. Vernon, Kansas, taught her the values she passed on to her children and grandchildren: love for God and family, hard work and honesty. She will be remembered for her bright smile, good sense of humor, willingness to give advice and tireless energy to get things done, but most of all, for her example of love for others. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Elizabeth (Kuhl) Bergkamp; husband, Joseph C. Stockemer, and 7 siblings. Survivors: children, Dan Stockemer (Mary), Gordon Stockemer (Stacey), Karla Mather (Randy), Gina ODell (Steve); grandchildren, Laura and Danielle Stockemer, Sarah Gereghty, Christina Haines, Matthew Stockemer, Katie Bretches, John Stockemer, Anna, Emily and Sarah Mather, Tyler, Ryan, Kyle and Sean ODell, Lisa Helberg; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Bergkamp (Marge) and Art Bergkamp (Irene); sister, Mildred Bergkamp; many loved nieces and nephews; very special friend, Peggy Meyer, and niece, Alvina Tull.
