Kaufman, Dr. Eugene E. departed from life to be with the Lord on July 5, 2011. Gene was born on April 4, 1930 in McPherson, Kansas. He was the son of Edward E. Kaufman and Edna O. Kaufman. Gene received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Bethel College in Newton, Kansas and graduated from the Kansas School of Medicine at the top of his class. He interned at Wesley hospital and served his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Gene was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Naval Medical Corps, receiving training in Amphibious Medical Warfare and served aboard the USS El Dorado in the Pacific as a medical officer and a surgeon. Upon discharge, Gene established a medical practice in Wichita, Kansas with Drs. Kaiser, Crumpaker, and Bowman in Orthopedics and then practiced Orthopedics and surgery with the physicians at the Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Gene was team physician for the Wichita State University Shockers, and became known as the “ShockDoc”. Gene was predeceased by his sister, Betty Kleffel, his loving wife of 44 years, Dorothy and their first child, Kathryn. Gene met and married Linda Constable, traveling extensively and having wonderful memories in later life. Gene is survived by his wife, Linda, and three children of his wonderful marriage with Dorothy, Eric E. Kaufman (wife Kathy), Debra S. Folkerts (husband Darwin), Marc L. Kaufman (wife Eva); grandchildren Brandi Moffitt (husband Drew) and Evan Kaufman, Chason, Maxwell and Tessa White, Megan and Jorden Kaufman, Lindsay and Emily Mullins, Scott Cockrill (wife Michelle), and Allison Cockrill; great-grandchildren Camryn Kaufman and Jett Moffitt. Gene was also survived by his brother, Kenneth L. Kaufman of Saratoga, California. Gene was board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery; a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a diplomat of the American Academy of Orthopedic surgeons; a member of the American Medical Association; the Medical Society of Sedgwick County; a member of the Kansas Orthopedic Society; a member of the Mid-Central States Orthopedic Society; the Wichita Surgical Center; the Clinical Orthopedic Society; a Founding Father of Mid-American Orthopedic Association serving as President and many other positions. Gene has many other honors and awards. He will be missed by not only his family and friends but by many patients, doctors and nurses. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9 at Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, 655 S. Lorraine, Wichita, immediately followed with refreshments, fellowship and a time of sharing at the church. There will be a private burial.
