Eugene M. Spurgeon

Eugene M. Spurgeon Eugene Spurgeon, 96, passed peacefully January 31, 2018. Born August 30, 1921 in Medicine Lodge, KS to Russell and Mabel Spurgeon, Gene served in WWII in the China-Burma-India theatre. Following the war, in 1946 he married Nita Kernek and established their home and a Chrysler dealership in Panora, IA. In 1954, he and his brother opened a Chrysler dealership in Wichita. Changing careers in 1958, he joined Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, from which he retired in 2014 at the age of 93. Preceded in death by his wife, Nita; he is survived by his daughters, Janna (Steve) Trombold, Rhonda (Charles) Norfleet; grandsons, John (Michelle) Trombold, Justin Trombold, Mark Norfleet, Mike (Kelli) Norfleet; three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., February 12, 2018 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests either the Frank Kik Endowment Fund or the Spurgeon Organ/Choir Memorial Fund, both with Eastminster Church, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67206.
