Eugene Swanson

Eugene Swanson, 81, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and wholesale foods industry retired sales representative. Gene graduated from Wichita University with a BS in Zoology. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas and was Chief of the Wichita Division of Civil Defense (now Emergency Management Services.) Preceded in death by parents, Howard and Irma (Crosswhite) Swanson. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Janis (Achelpohl) Swanson; children, David Swanson (Rita) of Norman, OK, Bev Sojourner (Karen) of Kansas City, MO, Alan Swanson (Julie) of Arlington, VA; sister, Mary Briggs (John) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Angie Stephen, Charley and Caleb Sidener, Jill Sojourner, Sara Flood and Forrest Swanson; 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral service, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, Northridge Friends Church. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., Argonia City Cemetery, Argonia, KS.
