Florabelle E. Belle Scarth

Scarth, Florabelle E. “Belle,” retired accountant from BKD, LLP, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014. Born April 26, 1930, in Platte County, MO to Hazel Catherine Hershley and John Joseph Burke. Belle came to Wichita in 1952, graduating with an accounting degree in 1956 from Wichita University and started work at F.B. Kubik Company (which merged into BKD, LLP in 1992) where she stayed until her retirement. She helped found/was a charter member of the Wichita Chapter, American Society of Women Accountants (now AFWA) in 1972, remaining an active member throughout her career. Belles contributions to F.B. Kubik Company were immeasurable; she was known to be an extremely capable and reliable accountant/administrative assistant, and served on various boards, notably The Charitable Foundation. She enjoyed the seasons - basketball and football, all things WSU, but also KU and KSU, and was a diehard KC Chiefs fan. She traveled extensively, was a regular at Music Theatre, an avid reader and loved animals. She was buried in the family plot in Dearborn, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “AFWA Scholarship Fund” (“Belle Scarth Memorial” in the memo section), PO Box 222, Wichita, KS 67201. She is survived by cousins R. C. Hershley, Jr. of Platte City, MO, and Lila (Jim) Scrivener of Dearborn, MO. Downing Lahey East Mortuary.
