Fonzy Lee Robertson

September 26, 1948 ~ August 6, 2020
Fonzy Lee Robertson, Jr.
71, of Wichita, passed away peacefully in his home, comforted by his wife, Barbara, August 6, 2020. Fonzy was born on September 26, 1948, to Fonzy Sr. and Sally (Tillery) in Malvern, Arkansas.
Fonzy began his 41-year teaching career in 1971 as a history teacher in Cherryvale, Kansas. Following his passionate heart to help others, Fonzy became the guidance counselor at Norwich High School in 1978, where he touched the lives of many students. After 37 years in education, Fonzy retired from Norwich and went to Burrton High School where he continued his journey with students as a guidance counselor for 4 more years. In 2012, he fully retired from teaching to spend more time with his loved ones.
At the center of Fonzy’s life was his family. He was so proud of each one of his children and grandchildren. There were very few sporting events, music programs or plays that he did not attend. He was thankful for live broadcasts when he was not able to attend in person due to his 6-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Fonzy brought the best out of others and always kept his family laughing with his witty humor. When he was not at an event or taking a “power nap”, he spent his time crafting woodworking projects for Barbara and the family. Alongside his love for the outdoors, Fonzy enjoyed his grandchildren by his side while fishing or dancing to old music.
Fonzy was an active member of the Viola Baptist Church until 2008, when he moved to Wichita and became an active member of the Believers Southern Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Rouse), children: Corey and Dianne (Tompkins) Brown, and children Cade, Colin, Caleb and Corinne of Shawnee, KS; Fr. Curtis Robertson of Parsons, KS; Taylor and Sarah (Farmer) Robertson, and children Brady, Chance and Lily of Cheney, KS; Tara and Scott Ayres, and children Morgan, Landen, Braylin and Riley of Cheney, KS; Kailee and Travis Winningham, and children Cale, Paige and Branden of Holloman, Air Force Base, NM.
Viewing will be from 3:00-9:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral services will be Monday, August 10, at 1 pm, at Believers Southern Baptist Church, Wichita. Memorials have been established with Victory in the Valley and the Building Fund at Believers Southern Baptist Church.
Praying for you and your family in this difficult time.
Please accept our condolences and know that our hearts are with all of you, From the Tompkins families of Nancy, Patrick, Aaron and Atalie.
I will always remember the laughter & good time that Charlotte & I were privileged to share with You & Fonzy at your home during the Super Bowl game. I am so sorry for your loss.
He was one of my favorite teachers when he taught in Cherryvale KS. He made a positive impact on my life and I’m heartbroken he’s no longer with us…
