Fred Edgar Meisinger

Meisinger, Fred Edgar, 93, financial planner, was born at home on October 12, 1919, on his familys farm in Marion County, and died Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Wichita, Kansas. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Plymouth Congregational Church. After playing football in high school for Florence, Kansas, Fred attended Emporia State Teachers College on a football scholarship and joined Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. While in college, he was president of his class and met Dorothy Conklin, his wife of 63 years. After graduation, Fred enlisted in the army to fulfill this duty before beginning law school. However, World War II began that December and Fred was able to use his leadership skills to qualify for Officers Candidate School. After finishing Officers training and thus qualifying for a short leave, he and Dorothy married in her family home in Hutchinson, Kansas on September 2, 1942. After completing his service in the army, where he was promoted to the rank of major, he managed the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs and then the Broadview Hotel in Wichita. Once they started a family, Fred joined Equitable Life Insurance Company (AXA) and ultimately retired in 1997. He will best be remembered by his robust, trademark greeting, either in person or by phone, of “Howdy!” Fred was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2005. He is survived by his three daughters, Martha (Chuck) Cable, Mary (Chris) OBrien, and Ann Meisinger, all of Wichita; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 North Clifton, Wichita, Kansas, 67208. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
