Murfin, Fred, 95 of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014. Fred was a resident of Larksfield Place of Wichita. A Memorial Service will be held at Larksfield Place, Monday, October 13, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. Private family graveside services are planned. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of over sixty years, Moira Lee, his parents, I.W. and Bessie Murfin and his brother, Bill. He is survived by two sons, Jim Murfin of Latham, Kansas and Mike Murfin of Lawrence, Kansas; grandson Jim Murfin and his wife, Laura of Wichita, granddaughter Marci LaMunyon and her husband, Blake of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; sisters-in-law Jane Kuhlmann (Jim) of Wichita, and Judy Mayotte of Washington, DC; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Freds family was truly his delight. His unconditional friendship, being a role model, counselor, and ardent supporter are greatly appreciated by the family and he will be greatly missed; but his legacy and his spirit will live on. Fred was born February 18, 1919, in El Dorado, Kansas. A life-long Wichita resident, he attended East High School, University of Kansas and Wichita State University. During WWII, Fred was in the U.S. Navy aboard a Naval Resupply Ship in the South Pacific. After returning from the War, Fred co-founded Murfin Drilling Company of Wichita and also served as Vice-Chairman of Russell Stover Candies. He was active with the Boy Scouts, East Heights United Methodist Church and later joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Shortly before joining the Navy, he married Moira Lee Moberly. During their marriage, they loved to travel, enjoy family and friends. They loved spending time at Grand Lake of the Cherokees and raising fine Polled Hereford cattle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Alzheimers Association, Central Western Kansas Chapter, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214; or Boy Scouts of America, Attn: Cathy, 3247 N.
