Fred W. Braht

November 7, 1929 ~ February 25, 2025
Fred W. Braht, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Fred was born in Berlin, Germany before immigrating to the United States with his family in 1936. He and his sister Yvonne grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Fred enlisted in the army and served very briefly towards the end of World War II, before attending the University of Arkansas. As a member of the United States Reserves, he was called to service again in the Korean War where he served as an Army medic. Upon returning to college and completing his architecture degree he met his future wife, Sally Gorum. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, to pursue their professional lives and raise a family.
Fred and Sally were both very active in the Wichita art and architecture community. As a partner in Platt, Adams, Braht Architecture a number of Wichita skyline additions were attributable to Fred’s contributions. Among them the downtown Garvey Business Center and Towers, Epic Center, Kiva Shopping Center, the Wichita Art Museum and a multitude of prominent commercial and residential structures. Fred also did volunteer work for Planned Parenthood Services and served for many years on the Board of Kansas Children’s Service League. Fred was a kind and compassionate man who will be missed dearly by family and friends.
He is survived by his two children, Lance (Ellen) Braht, Emily (Rick) Leisner, both of Dallas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A private graveside service will be held. There will be a celebration of Fred’s life at Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, Thursday, March 6, from 4:00 to 5:30 P.M. All of his many friends and acquaintances are invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Allen House, 255 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, Kansas 67208 flwrightwichita.org/donations.
Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
Rest Fred, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army, at the end of WWII and U.S. Army Reserves. Recalled to service during the Korean War and served as a medic.
AS a structural engineer in Wichita for many years, I had the opportunity to work with Fred on a number pf his projects, such as the Kiva. Very professional and easy to work with was Fred. God be with his family.
