G. Lawrence “Terry” Keller, Jr., 76, died Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Rosary will be at 9:30 am, Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, February 14, 2022, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Mr. Keller was born June 2, 1945, to G. Lawrence and Ann G. Keller in Cincinnati, OH. A resident of Wichita since 1952, and a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas since it’s founding in 1959. He was a graduate of Chaplain Kapaun Memorial High School and Newman University. Upon graduation from Newman, he volunteered for Army service and served for 15 months with the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and Vietnamese Civil Action medals. In addition, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Purple Heart, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Palm for Valor. Mr. Keller worked in management for the Union National Bank, the Boeing Company, and as a consultant to Spirit Aerosystems. He was active in a number of civic and charitable causes, serving as Chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries and as a Board Member of Envision, Inc., The United Way, The American Red Cross Midland Chapter, and served on the Mayors Advisory Committee on Utilities and Cost Effective Management. Mr. Keller was an engaged member of the American Automobile Association, serving as Chairman of the Board of AAA Kansas, Director of AAA Allied Group (Cincinnati, OH) and an Advisory Director of AAA Club Alliance, Inc. (Wilmington, Delaware). In 2017, as a trustee of the AAA Kansas Traffic Safety Fund he received the People Saving People Award from the Kansas Department of Transportation. Mr. Keller was particularly devoted to Newman University, serving over the years as Chairman of the National Alumni Association, the Associate Board of Directors, and the Board of Trustees. In 2007 he served as co-chair of the Dugan Library and Campus Center Capital Campaign. In recognition of his service, Newman awarded him the St. Maria DiMattia Alumni Award in 1992 and the John Henry Cardinal Newman Medal in 2005. Preceded in death by his college sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Gretchen. Survived by his daughter, Heather (Ray) Fuller of Overland Park, KS; sons, G. Lawrence (Natalie) Keller, III of Westlake Village, CA, Brian Keller of Wichita, Shaun Keller of Augusta, KS, Matthew (Carla) Keller of Paris, France; grandchildren, Connor and Lauren Harper, Victoria, Amelia, and Giuliana Keller, Willow Keller, Enzo and Alannah Keller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

  1. Terry and I were acquainted a number of years ago during the Ed Arn Senitorial campaign on on several other occasions. I checked on him from time to time with his father who I found worked for the FBI before his Coleman employment. Terry and I went our separate public ways and I am not surprised at his contributions to his community and his church. He symbolized what was good in mankind and was honorable.
