Garold Wingate, 87, died Friday, March 3, 2023. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, March 17, 2023, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Graveside Service will follow at Kensington Gardens.Garold was born January 1, 1936 to Thomas and Ethel Wingate, who precede him in death.He graduated from Hutchinson Junior College in 1956 and from Kansas University in 1959, during which time he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. During his time in school, he also served in the Kansas Air National Guard (1957-1963). Following graduation, Garold married Diane Brooker in 1960. Together they welcomed four sons, Tom, Tim, Steve, and Mike. Garold taught for three years in the Lenexa, KS school system before joining Paul Brooker Sales, Inc in 1963, a company run by his father-in-law. He was promoted to Vice President. In that role he organized Regional Sales Directors and expanded the company into Canada. In the late 1990s, he formed Wingate Solutions, Inc. and served as the company’s president. Two of his sons, Tim and Mike, work for the company. Throughout his career, Garold won many awards: 2000 Kansas Republican of the Year, an invitation to the 2005 Presidential Inauguration, 2008 Presidential Commission for Kansas, and on May 11, 2002 the “Special Friends of the Hardware and Home Center Industry” by the National Retail Hardware Association.Garold was an active member of the Wichita community. He and Diane are long-time members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Garold was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Friends of McConnell, and the Better Business Bureau. He was also the President of the Mustang Football Club, and a board member of the Wichita Farm and Ranch Club.Preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Thomas Paul Wingate. Survived by his wife, Diane Wingate; sons, Mike (Katie) Wingate, both of Wichita, Tim (Kim) Wingate of Kansas City, MO, Steve (Heather) Wingate of McLean, VA; brother, Lyle (Anita) Wingate of Kansas City, KS; sister, Jeanene Lemon of Country Club, MO; Tom’s wife, Brenda Squire; grandchildren, Laura (Zack) Zinkle, Julie (Parker) Mitchell, Laughton Wingate, Addy Wingate; great-granddaughters, Chloe Zinkle, Ava Zinkle, Madailne Mitchell; great-grandson, Dean Mitchell.Memorials have been established with: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67206; and Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.

Garold was one of the nicest men I ever knew. He was a great athlete and always a sincere friend and fraternity brother. (Pi Kappa Alpha). He was originally from Pretty Prairie, Kansas.
