MURRAY, GARRISON R. a resident of Wichita since 1967, passed away May 8, 2016. Garrison was born May 25, 1932 in Oklahoma City, OK, to George W. and Marguerite Murray. He married Betty L. Hamby on April 15, 1954. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music from Central State University, Edmond, OK, in 1954. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served two years performing with the U.S. Fourth Army Band at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX. Garrison continued his education, working on his Masters in Music Performance, at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He received his Masters in Music Education from Wichita State University. Garrison taught instrumental music for the Wichita Public School System, retiring in 1986. He was an avid gardener, priding himself with a gorgeous lawn, award winning roses, and luscious tomatoes. After retirement, he became a member of the South Central Kansas Mustang Club and the Oklahoma Mustang Club. His 1966 Custom Modified Mustang Coupe won numerous awards. Garrison was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 59 years. He is survived by his daughters, Laury Bullock (Keith), Garrie Kay Murray, Janet Murray (David Fogelson); grandson, Jessie Bullock (Kristen); sister, Mary Johnson; and brothers Delphin Coots (Laura) and Gerald Murray (Connie). A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Downing and Lahey West, 10515 W. Maple, Wichita, KS.
