George C. Helterbrand May 26, 2017 at 1 A.M., one of the Greatest Generation passed away at home surrounded by his family. George Clifton Helterbrand accomplished many things in his 91 years, he endured the Great Depression as one of the "Boys of the Rails," riding trains with his buddies to far flung farms, working as harvesters, sending money home to family. Being a crack shot, he carried a Browning Automatic Rifle during the ferocious Battle of the Bulge with Pattons 3rd Army. He was Master of Bester G. Brown Masonic lodge, and owner of Kansas School of Hairstyling in Wichita, Kansas. In his retirement years, he played music for Senior Citizen and was hard to beat when playing pool with his senior buddies. George is survived by LaVerne, his loving wife of 68 years, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and untold numbers of friends. Private Family Service will be held. A memorial has been established with Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
