Garvey, Gertrude (Trudi) P. Little, daughter of William T. and Katie Beryl Little, joined her loved ones in heaven on 27 March 2012. Trudi was born October 7, 1918 near Derby, Kansas. One of eleven children, Trudi loved growing up on the family farm. Trudi graduated from Derby High School and Wichita Business College. She worked as an insurance agent, at Boeing and for Wichita Public Schools. Trudi met her husband, James C. Garvey (Jack), at a church party where he secretly filled her empty shoes with sand. They were married in 1944. Trudi was PTA president at Allen Elementary and Mead Jr. High and was a Camp Fire leader for eleven years. She was also a dedicated member of her Extension Homemakers Unit as well as at Calvary United Methodist Church. Moving to Emporia, Kansas in 1995, Trudi was one of the first residents of Holiday Estates, a retirement community. When her health failed, Trudi moved to Holiday Resort. Her children, Judi Garvey-Lefebvre (Ernie) and James R. Garvey, survive. Also surviving is Trudis grandson, Jordan C. Lefebvre. Of her ten siblings, four survive: Duane Little (Leola), Margaret Polk, Virginia Lamb, and Joyce Riggs (James). A celebration of life will be 9:30 am Saturday, May 19 at Downing Lahey East in Wichita. Her ashes will be interred at Wichita Park Cemetery next to the man who filled not only her shoes but her life with love.
