Gilbert Louis Pittman, 94, retired co-owner of Pittmans Pattern Shop, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Wichita. Gilbert was born December 28, 1921, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Thomas W. and Lucille (Spears) Pittman. He grew up in La Crosse and graduated from Central High School in 1940. As a youth, Gilbert was active in track, football, baseball and Boy Scouts, obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Gilbert served in the US Navy from 1942-1945. He was a carpenters mate on the USS Mustin Destroyer DD413 and USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier CV12 during World War II. A resident of Wichita since 1950, Gilbert was a member of St. Patricks Church, a lifetime member of the Wichita Post Card Club and Wichita Stamp Club, as well as a 101 Ranch Honorary Director. Gilbert is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Ann of 55 years; daughter, Kathleen Curless (Craig), and grandchildren, Renae and Brian Curless. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, John R. Pittman; brothers, Meredith and Elwin Pittman, and sister, Charlotte Jarzernski. Visitation with the family, 3-5 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 5:30 p.m., both Friday, February 5 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral Mass, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 6, St. Patricks Catholic Church. Memorial established with USS Hornet Museum, P.O. Box 460, Alameda, CA 94501.
