This is a picture of Gillard in our sukkah this year. It was our tradition that he, as elder, would recite the kiddish on a Friday evening. Here he is turning to the page in the siddur.
Here is Gillard with Stan and Sue Harder and Israeli kids at Thanksgiving.
I didn’t know Gillard well but remember him well from the Sedgwick County court dockets. He was always smiling and always had something nice to say. He once told me I dressed like a lawyer. I had always hoped that was true but having it confirmed by Gillard was a special treat.
Gillard Will always be remembered as one of the kindest and most fun speakers for the Wichita East high class of 1957. Largest class to ever graduate from East high. The two pictures were taken in October 2021 as he viewed the statue of Joan d’Arc and took a tour of many of his favorite icons that are left downtown, including century two. Shown with Mary Theis Creason and Jean Ann Stevens Cusick.
Gillard was one of my dad’s dearest friends (Loren J. Fruits). They were both active members of Albert Pike Lodge #303 AFAM and Wichita Consistory. Gillard and I became friends as I was going through the Masonic Bodies in Wichita. Gillard was very bright, articulate and had a great sense of humor. He was a delight to be around and was always a gentleman. His mother, Fannie and my dad went to school together. Pop always thought a lot of the Cohen family. This world has lost a fine gentleman. He will be missed. Farewell old friend. Rest In Peace.
I just learned of Gillard’s passing. He new his way around the Court House and whose office he would rest in. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Shalom…
