Goodwin, Glen Ray, 86, passed away, Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Rosary, 7 p.m., Sunday, February 12; Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Monday, February 13, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Glen was born in Wichita on July 11, 1925, and left home at the age of 13 to work. He graduated from Coats High School in Coats, KS and entered the Navy in 1943 where he served as a radio operator on the USS Panamint. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill, who was killed during the assault on Iwo Jima. Glen was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and worked for several companies until he met the love of his life, Rita. They were married on December 27, 1949 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. During the early years of their marriage, they had 2 children, Bill and Kim. Glen worked for Northwest Oxygen for 31 years, primarily as a bookkeeper, but often in the role of office manager. He spent a couple of years as a traveling salesman selling welding supplies. Around the age of 50, he changed jobs and went to work for the City of Wichita as a housing inspector, retiring at the age of 62. During his retirement years, gardening was his favorite hobby. Other hobbies included racing pigeons, square dancing, photography, astronomy, hunting, fishing, archery, CB, then later ham radio. In October of 2011, Glen, and his family, was privileged to take the Honor Flight for World War II veterans. Glen is preceded in death by mother, Nellie Milroy. Survivors: wife, Rita J. (Uhlschmidt) Goodwin; children and their spouses, Bill and Ellen Goodwin of Cheney; Kim and Don Bright of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick (Jamie), Shawn, Veronica, Judith, Christi (Jeremy), Andrew (Kristi), and Marianna; 7 great-grandchildren.
