Glenn Everett Meier

Glenn Everett Meier, 91, of Wichita, Kansas, died at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, on Easter, April 4, 2021. Glenn was born July 8, 1929, in Dorrance, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reinhardt Meier and Elsie Marie Herber Meier. He graduated from Dorrance High School in 1947 and worked as a stock clerk for Cities Service before entering the Army in 1951. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and was honorably discharged in 1953, when he transferred to AMED-USAR (Active Ready Reserve) until 1957. Glenn was married to LaDora Marie Stoppel Meier in 1955 and remained married (66 years) until his death. Glenn worked for Cities Service Oil Company (Oxy) until his retirement in 1988.
His job located him to Lindsay and Oklahoma City OK, Great Bend and Wichita, KS. Glenn enjoyed golf and was a member of the Russell VFW, American Legion 334.
Glenn is survived by his wife, LaDora; sister, Phyllis Karle of Topeka; brother, Dean Meier of Russell; three children, Randall Meier (Janet McCart-Meier), Timothy Meier (Nancy) and Cindy Crawford; grandchildren, Eva Meier Tinkey (Steven), Danny Meier (Kayla), Carl Meier (Katarina), Rebekah Meier Snyder (Nick), Kristen Crawford, Sarah Meier, Erik Crawford, Ian Crawford; great-grandchildren, Anna Tinkey, Valentina Meier, Aidan Snyder, Azadi.
Glenn was baptized in Dubuque, Kansas, and was an active member for many years of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Glenn was very proud of his German descent, the grandson of immigrants from near the Volga River in Russia, who became longtime farmers in Russell County (Dorrance, Dubuque, Bunker Hill and Wilson).
Glenn enjoyed golf, travel, and meeting for coffee with his friends. He was also immensely proud of his family.
After his retirement, Glenn and LaDora traveled with friends and family to many places, cruised the Caribbean and Alaska, wintered in Mexico, toured Russia, Germany and Italy. They went on a month-long African safari. In addition to overseas travel, they toured the US and Canada extensively.
Memorial Service to be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1101 N River Blvd, Wichita, KS. on Monday, April 12, 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow. Graveside services will be in Dorrance, Kansas, April 13, 11:30 am. Luncheon/Snacks to follow at First Lutheran Church, 417 Coleman St, Dorrance.
