Barkett, Grace Farha, age 81, passed away June 30, 2015. She was born October 21, 1933 in Wichita, KS to Sam F. Farha and Dollie Razook Farha who preceded her in death. Her name was given by the Nuns at St. Francis “stating that she was indeed a child of Grace”. She was a 1951 graduate of North High and attended Colorado Womens College. She is survived by her husband and the love of her life H.R. (Tony) Barkett, married to for over 61 years. Grace was a devoted wife to her husband Tony whom she greatly admired for being a man of great integrity and caring for all of his family. She is also survived by her children, Rev. John Barkett of East Tawas, MI and Toni Sadler (David) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Gregory Barkett, Christopher Sadler, and Abby Barkett; brothers, Farris Farha (Karen), Norman Farha (Carol); sister, Gloria Farha Flentje (Jack Focht). Grace is further survived by her Brothers and Sisters in Christ at St. Georges Orthodox Cathedral. Grace, Gracie, Claaaazy, Grass, Mom and most endearing “Sittie,” she was a friend to everyone and never knew a stranger, the true Mrs. Congeniality. Though love swept her from Broadway, she utilized her acting skills in her church and community, entertaining all. Whether playing the piano (by ear) or just bringing humor and joy to those who needed it, she always brightened up the room. She was a phenomenal cook always willing to provide advice and counsel to younger cooks. She would much rather prepare a meal for 50 than sew on one button! Friends loved to eat at the Barkett home and many got their first taste of Lebanese food there, long before hummus was popular. She was the ultimate volunteer both in the community and at her church. She was very involved in the school activities of her children and continued supporting these schools long after they had graduated. Kids would clamber to ride in “Mrs. Barketts car” on a field trip as she was just too fun to be around! Grace was volunteer #1 for the original Wichita Childrens Museum and a founding member. Her church was an important part of her life as she was a person of great faith. Grace started working at the Annual Lebanese Dinner at St. George Orthodox Church at age 7, standing on a milk carton to wash dishes. She was the head Rice Cooker for many years, taught Sunday school and showed her respect for the church matriarchs who were decades her senior by joining the Ladies of St. George, being the youngest member. Grace gave much more than she ever could have received, always putting others before herself. She was a loving and most dedicated wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and a friend to all. She was the firecracker who kept our family entertained, fed and loved. A heartfelt thank you to her special friend, Kisha, and the staff at Larksfield Place for your love and care of our beloved “Gracie.” She so loved playing the piano for all of you! Visitation will be held on Thursday July 2, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Trisagion and Funeral Services will be held at St. George Orthodox Cathedral at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 5, 2015. Burial will be at 12:00 P.M. on Monday July 6, 2015 at Wichita Park Cemetery.
