Gwen Anne (Adams) Sevart, 94, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Gwen was born at home in rural Montgomery County, Kansas on November 22, 1931, to Orville Ray and Dora Jane (Duncan) Adams. She was raised in the Coffeyville, Kansas area. She graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School and earned her associate’s degree from Coffeyville Junior College. On November 22, 1952, she married John Bart Sevart. Following her husband’s service in the Air Force during the Korean War, they settled in Wichita, Kansas. Gwen worked along with her husband and was Co-Owner and Vice President of Advance Technology, Inc.

During Gwen’s lifetime, while raising 8 children, she always found time to volunteer with organizations that were near and dear to her heart. Among these organizations were: Girl Scouts, St. Thomas Aquinas Altar Society, WSU Dames, Meals on Wheels, Roots and Wings, Foster Grandparents, Music Theatre of Wichita Guild, Kansas Children’s Service League, Harry Hynes Friends of Hospice, Monicans, Agatharians, Tri Psi, and various other organizations.

Along with her husband, Gwen was on the building committee for St. Thomas Aquinas Church. The completion of the project gave her such joy. She was an avid bridge player and was instrumental in forming the St. Thomas Aquinas bridge group. She made lasting friendships in her various bridge groups.

Besides her volunteer work and bridge playing, nothing was more important than her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Dora Adams; her husband, John Bart; grandsons Matthew Hyder and Christopher Dewey; brother-in-law, George Rutherford; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

    • Mrs. Sevart always had a smile on her face and a laugh in her heart! When I saw her she always remembered my name and asked about my family and my parents. She was one of the trusted neighborhood STA moms!! She went to see Jesus on His birthday with that big smile on her face!! My condolences to her whole family that I know will miss her dearly!!! Beth Mertes Ferraro

  1. Gwen was a special friend and will be missed by all who knew her. My sympathy to her family at the loss of this wonderful Mother, Granny and Great Grandmother

  2. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, your Mom will be with all you forever, God bless you all in your time of need.

  3. Gwen always had the biggest smile and the loveliest demeanor. I knew her through the Monicans and enjoyed her company immensely. She was always positive and pleasant, I want to be her when I grow up!! May she rest in the peace of Christ and may angels come to greet her.

  4. Gwen was just the dearest lady ! I always loved seeing her at Monicans and we would always chat and laugh ! She was special, and my mom and Gwen shared some good stories together from the beginning days of STA ! Will miss her a lot – many prayers for all of her beloved family ! REST IN PEACE Gwen !

  5. Gwen Sevart was as close to an Angel as I have ever known. She was fun, positive, talented and all around wonderful. I remember well how whenever a baby was born into her family, she would go to the home to bathe the baby regularly. Nobody loved babies as much as she. From the moment that we were introduced, she treated me like family and she loved my daughter, Chris, as if she had given birth to her. She will be deeply missed and we will all see her again when we get to Heaven. Love, Grani Jani

  6. Gwen was a guiding light during my time at Kansas Children’s Service League, offering steady support, kindness, and understanding when it mattered most. She led with her heart in everything she did, always putting others first and reminding us what compassion looks like in action. Gwen’s warmth, generosity, and dedication to helping others will be remembered and carried forward by all who were lucky enough to love her.

  7. I only had a very, very short time to get to know her. That being said, It was easy for me to see that she was loved and respected by all the members of her family. It was my honor and privilege of meeting her and becoming acquainted with her. I have recently had the pleasure of looking at pictures of past family activities and gatherings with her. I could tell her family members loved her very much. Michelle has told me about her mother and father providing a warm and loving environment, always encouraging their children, and helping them find their own way while offering a safe and nurturing home life. All of Gwen’s children have been successful at their chosen professions. They reflect the values and integrity of their parents, and continue to be examples for their own children. She made a lasting impression on a lot of people, friends and family. She will be missed.

  8. Gwen Ann always greeted you with a smile! She is an inspiration to me as a wife, mother, hostess, business woman, and volunteer. I was in the Spring Acres home often during college and was always welcome with a meal and a place to sleep. There was always room for one more at the Sevart table, and usually Dairy Queen ice cream!

Much love and blessings to you all!
