Hansen, Hans Christian, 65, retired accountant and attorney, died Monday, October 13, 2008. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 15 at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 16 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Hans was born on January 26, 1943, to Laura (Rasmussen) and William Hansen. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy in Penn Yan, NY in 1961. He was a reporter for The Chronicle Express newspaper in Penn Yan until he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Hans was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for service in the Army Security Agency in West Germany. After serving in the Army, he became a radio announcer for WFLR radio in Dundee, NY, KYOR radio in Blythe, CA, WAUB in Auburn, NY and WSFW in Seneca Falls, NY. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Northwestern State in Alva, OK in 1971. Hans earned a Juris Doctor degree in Law from Washburn University School of Law in 1974. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Wichita State University. After graduating from Law School, he worked in the Law Offices of David W. Wheeler in Newton, KS as Vice President of Amortibanc in Wichita, with the Region III Criminal Justice Planning Office, as Assistant County Attorney in Harvey County, KS, as the Sedgwick County Sheriffs Attorney under Johnnie Darr, as a Kansas Child Support Enforcement Attorney in Wichita, as a Tax Attorney for Dynatax and CCH Computax in Wichita and in private practice in Wichita. Hans is survived by his wife, Patricia (Carney); sisters, Olivia Hershey and Glenda Jackson both of Geneva, NY and Loretta Patchett of Penn Yan, NY; brothers, Paul Hansen of Templeton, CA and Byron Hansen of Kingman, AZ as well as 54 nieces and nephews. His brother, Bruce Hansen and nephew, Steven Hansen, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, P.O.
