Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. To LeAnn and Jim, and the rest of Harold’s family

In recent months, I’ve had the pleasure and honor of visiting Harold – we visited about once a month. He always spoke fondly of his family – we talked about his wife Helen, and about his confidence (and desire) to see her soon in eternity. We talked about a lot of things; Harold seemed to enjoy our visits, and we really enjoyed laughing about shared memories from each other’s lives.

I just saw him a few weeks ago and he seemed well – in fact, we spent most of our chat outside in the spring sunshine. We laughed and prayed together, and I was looking forward to seeing him sometime this month. I will miss Harold quite a bit – all glory to our God and Father for his eternal rest.

  2. Harold was an incredible light to the family at Northside. He almost always had a smile and an encouraging word to share as long as he was able to attend. We know it has been a long journey—And we rejoice in his victory in Jesus!

  3. I’ve know Harold since I was a baby living across the street from him in Great Bend, KS-for 58 yrs now. When Helen reached out after they moved to Wichita, near where we were in Augusta, it was a wonderful reunion. After that, mom & I visited & called them regularly for years until both my mother & Helen passed. Harold and I stayed in contact frequently calling & checking in on each other. At times calling daily, especially in the last month when his daughter was unable to visit. The last time we were able to talk was on the 3rd, he sounded good and we laughed over a funny memory of his wife who he adored. He was a very sweet man with a great sense of humor and wonderful memories. It was a blessing & joy to know Harold.

  4. I first met Harold and Helen when my wife and I were looking for a church home. They were the first to greet us, as visitors, when we walked into the church foyer. Some time later Harold and I became elders at that congregation at the same time.
I would characterized Harold as having a deep love for God, a commitment to following His teachings, and a desire to live a life that reflects His character. Key aspects of Harold as a godly man would include humility, integrity, love for others, and a dedication to spiritual growth. He was a servant-leader as an Elder, prioritizing the needs of others, and demonstrating love and compassion, especially towards his family.
I know he has now joined Helen in Paradise. Love you Brother.

  5. I knew Harold as an elder at the Sunset Church of Christ in Springfield, MO, where my wife and I are members. A specific memory that left an impression on me was a chance encounter at the VA medical clinic in Mt. Vernon, MO. I was there for my annual physical and as it turns out Harold had an appointment that day as well. I was in the cafeteria getting breakfast when he and Helen came in for the same purpose. He noticed me sitting by myself and came over to my table and asked if I would like to join him and Helen for breakfast. I gladly accepted. Harold led us in a prayer of Thanksgiving and we had a terrific visit, getting to know each other better. My wife and I were relatively new members at Sunset, and I guess I was a little surprised that he recognized me. Harold was an eloquent speaker and a kind, kind man. I rejoice in his homecoming with our Lord and his wife Helen as well as all the others who preceded him in death.
