Hazel Rogene Matson

Hazel Rogene Matson, 98, Homemaker, died Friday, January 3, 2025. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Sunday, January 12, 2025, Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 13, 2025, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Rogene was born and raised in the Valley Center area and has had many ties to this area during her entire life. She graduated from VCHS in 1944. In her married life, she was active in the Kechi area supporting her husband’s farming and family activities. She was very dedicated to her family Rogene is preceded in death by her parents, Murl and Mary Thompson; husband, LeRoy "Toy" Matson; sister, Hilda Davis; and brother, Bill Thompson. She is survived by her sons, Mike (Paula) Matson of Maize, KS, Doug (Jacque) Matson of Valley Center, KS, Pat (Jane) Matson of Kechi, KS; grandchildren, Susan (Roger) Xanders of Derby, KS, Shelley Matson of Derby, KS, Sean (Tristen) Matson of Valley Center, KS, Cynthia (Lucas) Webb of Lancaster, CA, Patrick J. Matson of Kechi, KS, Melanie Matson of Kechi, KS; four great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. A memorial has been established with: Sunnydale Community Welfare Society (for Sunnydale Community Hall restoration), 10202 N. Hillside, Valley Center, KS 67147.
