Helen Ann Riley, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many, passed away on February 2, 2024, at the age of 79 in Wichita, KS. She was born on November 18, 1944, in Wichita, to Harvey and Lucille Watts. Ann was a devoted wife to her husband, Phillip, for nearly 61 years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ann dedicated her career to Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages, where she worked for approximately 30 years. Her commitment and hard work were evident in everything she did. She was a reliable and dedicated employee, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and friends. Family was at the center of Ann’s life. She treasured every moment spent with her husband and children. Ann’s children, Lori and Scott, were her pride and joy. She always put their needs before her own, ensuring they had a loving and nurturing environment to grow up in. Ann shared a special bond with her sister Sue, who as a child carried her on her back to school when she was in kindergarten, sparing her from having to walk alone in the cold. Sue was always there for her. One of Ann’s greatest joys was celebrating holidays and family vacations. She especially loved Christmas and Thanksgiving, as they provided an opportunity for the entire family to come together, create lasting memories, and strengthen their bond. Ann’s warm and welcoming nature made everyone feel loved and cherished during these special occasions. Ann had a deep affection for her loyal companion, Casey, her beloved dog. Casey brought her comfort and companionship throughout her final years, and their bond was unbreakable. Ann Riley is survived by her loving husband, Phillip; her devoted children, Lori and Scott; and her caring sister, Sue Cressler. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey; her mother, Lucille; and her brother, Gary Watts. Visitation will be 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. A graveside service to honor and celebrate Ann’s life will be held on Friday, February 9, at 3:00 pm at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, KS. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - West Chapel.

Guestbook

  1. Phillip, I send you my prayers and so sorry to hear. Ann was my BEST friend in High School at West. We shared many good times together. Thinking of you and her son and daughter. Please know she was such a wonderful person and friend. Connie Coley Hunt

  2. Ann was always kind and had a caring heart for everyone. The memory that I have of her was when we flew to Dallas for training. We got on the plane to head back to Wichita and the plane could not land in Wichita because of a snow storm and it turned around and went back to Dallas. The next morning we went back to the airport and we were going to have to wait all day to get on plane so I said we are going to rent a car and drive back to Wichita. Her eyes got really big and she said “in this snow”? We drove back to Wichita and by the grace of God we made it back. She was such a joy to work with!

  3. Lori – My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. May God continue to bless y’all and give you that daily strength in the days, months and years ahead.

  4. To Sue, I’m so sorry about Ann. I just found out today. Both of you had a very close relationship that I admired. I wish you peace and comfort. Love, your cousin Shari Shockey
