Geary, Helen Louise (Brooks), 91, died Monday, March 27, 2006. Service is 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Plymouth Congregational Church. Helen Louise was born May 11, 1914 in Burden, Kansas, to Blanche L. and George O. Brooks. She attended public schools in Burden and Studied music at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where she was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority, graduating in 1936 with a degree in History. For three years, she taught high school History and English in Ensign, Kansas and Douglass, Kansas. At the university, she met Edward V. Geary of Kansas City, Missouri. They were married on June 4, 1939, whereupon she retired from teaching to raise a family. Upon her husbands return from World War II, they settled in Kansas City, Missouri. They also lived in Wheaton, Illinois, and Prairie Village, Kansas, before moving to Wichita in 1958, where Mr. Geary served as an officer at Union National Bank. Aside from her fulfilling work as a full-time homemaker, Mrs. Geary enjoyed gourmet cooking, gardening and bridge. In their later years, she and her husband traveled extensively to Europe and the Far East. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986. She leaves to mourn her passing a son, Richard, and his wife Deborah, of San Diego, California, a daughter, Janis Droegemeier and her husband Douglas, of Wichita, two grandchildren, Drew and Chad Droegemeier, and many friends and people whose lives she touched. Memorials have been established with Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 N. Clifton, Wichita, Kansas, 67208, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, Kansas, 67202.

  1. My family and I are sorry to hear about the passing away of Mrs. Geary. My family was a neighbor to Mr. and Mrs. Geary for over 48 years. I grew up with her son, Rick, and as a kid enjoyed our friendship with Rick and his family. Mrs. Geary was a great person. Always smiling. I am sorry to hear about hear passing away.
