Howard L. Burke, 82, Retired US Army PSG, Vietnam War Veteran and Retired Captain with the Kansas Dept of Corrections, died from a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease from Agent Orange Exposure in Vietnam, Tuesday, June 28, 2022. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 8, 2022, at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary. The service will be live streamed and available to view by clicking “Watch Event” below. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lucille Burke; half-sister, Ruby Jean Burke; brothers, Joseph Chester Burke and John Chester Burke. Howard is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Jean Burke; son, Michael (Kendra) Burke of Eureka, KS; daughters, Michele (John) Steinbacher of Wichita, KS; Shirley (Kyle) Evans of Scott City, KS; sister, Mary Harter of Richmond, IN. Howard was blessed with 6 amazing grandsons he loved so dearly; Matthew (Learha) Burke currently stationed in San Diego, CA; Taylor (Stephanie) Steinbacher of Wichita, KS; Jaden Steinbacher of Wichita, KS; Sean Steinbacher of Wichita, KS; Isaac Evans of Colby, KS and Josiah Evans of Manhattan, KS. Our “Papa” adored his 3 beautiful great-granddaughters, Madison and Lilliana Steinbacher of Wichita and Eleanor Burke of San Diego, CA. His eyes would light up when he saw them or talked about them.
