Barkett, Howard M., 91, restaurateur and beloved father and grandfather, died Saturday, May 17, 2014. Trisagion and Funeral Service will be at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Resthaven Cemetery. Howard was born July 8, 1922 in Oilton, OK to Henry and Selway Barkett. He enlisted as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Corp in World War II, serving as a navigator in the European theater. After returning from the service, he attended The University of Oklahoma, eventually returning to Buffalo to run Barketts Department Store. He married the love of his life, Nadine Rahill, on September 30, 1951, and they had three children, H.D., Robin, and Tammy. They eventually made their home in Wichita, KS where he opened three Wrangler Sirloin Pits, which became local favorites. Howard enjoyed cooking, golf, and exercising, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved Nadine; parents, Henry and Selway; and siblings, Milton Barkett, Gloria Barkett, Marquita Farha, and Vickey Griffith. Survivors are as follows: son and daughter-in-law, H.D. and Patti Barkett of Rockville, MD, daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Terry Moore of Wichita, KS, and daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jay Demetree of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Austin, Alexandra, Spencer, J.C., Taylor, Logan, Claire, and Nicholas; and brothers, Tony and Phil Barkett. A memorial has been established with St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS, 67206. Downing Lahey East Mortuary.
