Hugh H. Herring

Herring, Hugh H., 95, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. His service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at First United Methodist Church. Mr. Herring was a Wichita Police Department detective and lab investigator for many years, retiring with the rank of Captain. Later, he worked as a court bailiff for Judge Keith Sanborn. Mr. Herring was born in Livingston, Texas October 6, 1914. He made his home in Wichita from 1939 to 2001 when health problems caused him to move to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to assisted living. Preceding him in death are his wife, Ruthelma; son, Jim; granddaughter, Julie; his parents, 3 brothers and a sister. He is survived by his son, Tom and wife, Beverly of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter, Amy Smith and husband, Jeff of Las Vegas, NV; grandsons, Jason Herring of Phoenix, AZ and Scott Herring of Mission, KS and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial in his name has been established with the TV Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway, Wichita, 67202. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Hugh’s passing. He was a wonderful and wise man. He will be greatly missed.
I worked with Hugh quite a few years, he was one fine individual. He gave advice when needed, but done it in a way you didn’t mind being told!
Mr. Herring was the Captain in the Lab when I began working there in 1972. He was a great man and one that I always had a lot of respect for. I am sorry that he is gone. May God comfort you at this time.
