Jack Harryington Sawyer, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas on January 5, 2024. Jack is survived by his three stepsons Dan (Kristin) Clothier of Leawood, Kansas, David (Marti) Clothier of Wichita and Gary (Julie) Clothier of San Jose, California. Jack was born in Enid, Oklahoma on September 3, 1929, to P. H. and Ellener Mary (Reddick) Sawyer. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy A. Sawyer, his daughter Katherine Sawyer and his second wife, Betty Jean Clark. Jack had a distinguished career in the United States Marine Corp, seeing combat duty in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Marines, he traveled the country with Peggy in an RV, eventually settling in Wichita. Jack loved to dance and met Betty at a senior dance. They attended the dances 3-4 times a week, making many friends, and staying young for 16 happy years. A celebration of Jack’s life and a dance will be held at Orchard Park Recreation Center, 4808 W. 9th St. N, Wichita, Kansas 67212, at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 2nd, 2024. In lieu of flowers Jack’s family would appreciate memorial gifts to Wichita Botanica or Westwood Presbyterian Church. Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
