Jake Waller

Jake Waller, born May 5, 1922, filed his final flight plan and took off for Heaven, March 23, 2016. After graduating from High School at 16, he began his more than 50 year career in cold storage warehousing which included ownership of Wichita Ice and Cold Storage, Freezer Services, Inc. and a few "entrepreneurial" adventures. His involvement in the refrigerated warehousing industry took him from Carthage, MO to Wichita, KS and working the last 15 years of his career in Amarillo, TX. While in Amarillo, Jake was an active member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, served on the Amarillo Airport Board, and belonged to the Amarillo Antique Car Club, before moving back to Wichita in the early 90s. Jakes happiest times were with his family, especially at Grand Lake, OK. His other happiest times were flying his airplanes, driving his antique Fords, knocking on doors as a volunteer promoting Wichita Chamber of Commerce memberships and Shocker baseball and basketball. Jake was an Army veteran proudly serving his country during WWII. He was also a member of the Shriners in Wichita. Preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Millie, his second wife, Flossie and his third wife, Donna. Survived by his daughter, Judy (Bill) Hess of Wichita; sons, Dan (Marilyn) Waller of Andover, Phil Waller of Wichita, Mike (Teana) Waller of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Nick (Paige) Hess, Taylor Hess, Matt Waller, Erin (Mark) Schneider, Bethney Ralston (Marek Balazs), Megan (Ash) Sharma, Holly Waller; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Liam Hess, Jackson Sutherland, Mathew, Evan, Jillian, and Sofia Schneider. Private graveside service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be at 2 P.M., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Monkey Island, Grand Lake, OK. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Wichita State University Foundation, SASO, 1845 Fairmount St., Wichita, KS 67260-0002. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
