CHENEY - James D. “Dan” Ralstin, Sr., died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at home with his family. Dan is remembered as a man of God, a faithful and loving husband, a proud and devoted father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, brother and uncle, a friend to all and an honorable police officer. Dan was born in Vallejo, CA, May 5, 1946. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 13, at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, September 14, at the Cheney United Methodist Church, Cheney, KS, with Pastor Doug Hasting officiating. Dan served his country with the United States Air Force and served a tour in Viet Nam during that war. Dan was with the Sedgwick County Sheriffs Department and other law enforcement departments through the years, including the past few years as Captain of the Cheney Police Reserves. Preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Martin and Jacqueline Ralstin; his brother, David Ralstin; his father and mother-in-law, Curtis and Lonita Walker, and his brothers-in-law, Glenn A. Rose and Billy J. Walker. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ralstin of the home; his sons, James, Jr. (Barbara) Ralstin of Garden Plain and Jerry Ralstin of Cheney; foster daughter, Vanessa (Charles) Shelby of Aurora, CO; sisters, Rebecca (Dennis) Glover of Castro Valley, CA, Debra (Roy) Salisbury of Roseville, CA, Leah (Steve) Jones of New Zealand; brother-in-law, David Walker of Wichita and sister-in-law, Effie Walker of Larned; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces and dear friends. A memorial has been established with the Cheney United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Cheney, KS 67025.
