James Earl "Jim" Brock James Earl "Jim" Brock, 60, passed away April 22, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Asheville, North Carolina, the second of seven children. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He adored his grandchildren. Jim enjoyed being a grandpa and loved every minute he spent with the grandkids, and they loved their "Gampa," too. Jim was also a loyal friend and caring neighbor. Jim is survived by his wife of forty years, Jan Brock; daughters, Jessica Brock of South Bend, IN and Kristin (Thomas) Smith of Fort Lupton, CO; grandchildren, Hunter, Ryann and Baby Smith; mother-in-law, Betty Jo Weihe; his mother, Peggy Jo Ballew, and siblings, Mike, Mark, Jennifer and Richard Brock. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Maurice Weihe; father, Earl Thurston Brock, and sisters, Teresa Brock and Rose Chastain. Jim has worked hard all of his life to support himself and his family and to ensure his children had a better life than he did. After working since age 13, Jim recently retired and was finally "his own boss." Jim never knew a stranger. His smile and beautiful baby blue eyes melted many hearts. Jim would do anything for his family and friends and had a remarkable way with people. Jim was incredibly bright and witty, and his unique sense of humor brought joy to many. His friends and colleagues remarked that he often made difficult situations bearable with his sense of humor. Jim enjoyed driving his old cars, especially his 35 Chevy. He loved music and would crank his classic rock in the car and in the garage. Jim also enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking care of the yard. Jim was concerned about others and loved to feed people. Even during his recent ICU stay, he wanted to be sure the staff had enough to eat. Jim is deeply missed and loved. Visitation with the family, 10:15 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., both Thursday, April 26 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. A private family burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Meade, KS.
