James "Jim" York was a devoted husband, brother, favorite uncle, grandpa and friend. He passed away peacefully at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Via Christi St. Francis on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Jim's passing was preceded by his parents, Maloy and Pauline York; his beloved wife of forty years, "Eddie" York; sisters, Betty Summer and "Deanie" Chambers; and brother, "Jerry" York. Jim is survived by his wife, Gail York; step-children, Shawn Chambers and his wife, Michelle; and Molly Burress and husband, Jacob; sister, Glenda York; step-grandchildren, Patrick, Allison, and Megan Chambers, Josiah and Zeke Burress; and ten nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his Life is being planned. At the age of eighteen, Jim was flying high with the United States Navy. During the Cold War, he was a Navy Radioman flying the DEW Line from Argentina, Newfoundland to the Azores. Jim was a man of deep faith and quiet wisdom. He was a talented graphic artist with many varied interests. He excelled in calligraphy, silversmithing, pottery, and collecting anything he might use for future projects. As he worked, we all enjoyed his spontaneous lyrical whistle. As his beard grew white, he wanted to help his long-time friend Santa. "Santa Jim" as he was known to many, enjoyed listening patiently to children, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and visiting senior citizen homes. In his Old World Santa Suit, he was beloved by many. Services in care of Downing & Lahey West Mortuary.
