Tretbar, James Latham “Jamie”, 47, died Thursday, May 29, 2008. Memorial service, 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 3, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Jamie was a graduate of Wichita Southeast High School and the Kansas University School of Business. He worked for many years in the insurance industry and, more recently, several web-based businesses. Jamies greatest gift was his ability to communicate with anyone, from any walk of life, and make that person feel better as a result of the experience. He had a well-developed sense of humor which inevitably put those around him at ease. He was an animal lover and an avid supporter of Kansas University sports and KU Basketball, in particular. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Jamie was a proud father of two sons, Alex James, 18, and Jack Philip, 14, who were the light of his life. He also is survived by former wife, Brenda Bowman Tretbar of Wichita; parents, Harvey and Julia Tretbar of Wichita; sister, Margaret Tretbar of Kansas City; brothers, John Tretbar of St. Joseph, MO, and Harvey Tretbar, Jr. and Bill Tretbar of Wichita; nieces, Perry and Bea Tretbar of Wichita; and numerous friends he made throughout his life. Memorials will be established with Kansas Humane Society, 4218 Southeast Blvd, Wichita, KS 67210 and the Kansas Athletics-Williams Fund, P.O. Box 414280, Kansas City, MO 64141-4280.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Dear Julie, Harvey and family, We are so sorry to read about Jamie. Our thoughts are with you at the sad time.

  2. My very first memory of Jaimie was of when he (maybe5?) was trying to ‘follow’ big brother John and I to my house (three blocks away?), with a small Margret in tow. John explained (@$$#&*!%!!!) how this was not possible. Jaimie & Margret were not particulary happy with that deal, but John made sure they were safe-before we bailed the hell out on our bikes. This was before Jaimie knew how to cuss-but me thinks we got the message. I’ve had so much fun watching him grow thru the years. The ‘Tretbar’ wit and humor is projected well by Jaimie-and will not be forgoten soon. And that ‘hi-speed’ laughter- danm that will be missed! God speed-Jaimie…save me a place (#@%&*$@!!!) cmdr

  3. Jamie, family, and all, It’s been so long since I’ve seen Jamie.., and now live far away. But my heart will always go back to the elementary school years of fun and innocence. Those of you there you know of our loss… My condolences and prayers,

  4. Jamie, family, and all, It’s been so long since I’ve seen Jamie.., and now live far away. But my heart will always go back to the elementary school years of fund and innocence. Those of you there you know of our loss… My condolences and prayers,

  5. Dear Bill, Shelley and I are deeply hurt by the loss of Jamie. We can hardly comprehend your feelings of loss and sadness. We always enjoyed a call or visit we received from your brother. He was always so upbeat and cheerful and never complained. He was a rare soul and we will miss his spirit.

  6. My sincere sympathy. I have many fond memories of playing basketball with Jamie at the KG&E warehouse years ago. Jamie was always competitive and spirited. He was always full of life. Sincerely, Tony Taravella

  7. Julie, Harvey, Harvey Jr., Bill, John and Margaret With my deepest sympathy for your loss. When I think of Jamie he is still that cute little dark haired 8 year old boy next door. So full of life and joy. Memories are a wonderful gift. Judy (Calbeck) Young

  8. Jack and Alex – You and your family are in our prayers during this time of your life. Please know you are loved and that God is holding you in the palm of his hands. With sympathy. Jane and Jill Skaggs Jeff and Sabita Keeny

  9. Dear Julie and Harvey: We express to you and your family our sincere sympathy and love. May God wrap His strong arms about you and give you an abundance of His comfort.

  10. I love Jamie Tretbar! This news is so disturbing to me because he is such a good person with a humorous and positive attitude. I hung out with Jamie for about 2 years and loved every minute of it! He had the BEST sense of humor, but very different than the norm. He was fun and wonderful and a good shuffleboard player. I will miss seeing him playing at the Shamrock, the place with the ‘best shuffleboard table in town’. I just love him still and wish I could just have one night laughing with him – just one more time. Anybody would love him. My heart hurts because I know I won’t speak with him again. I love you, Jamie and I always will. I hope to see you above. And if I do, it will be a GREAT reunion with a wonderful, positive and funny friend. I will love you forever, Jamie. Cheese on Friday to you! I will never forget you.
