James Leslie "Jim" Turner

August 16, 1940 ~ December 2, 2019
James (Jim) Leslie Turner of Fall River, Kansas passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019 surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 79.
Jim was born on August 16, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas to Leslie and Florence Turner. He married his faithful wife Joan Avis (Prichard) Turner on October 3, 1959 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Joan. Jim is also survived by his children Christopher and wife Debbie; Jeffrey and wife Beth; Leslie and husband Ken; Steven; and Erika. He is survived by his brother Michael, brother and wife Patrick and Barbara, and brother and wife Robert and Sue. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren, Taylor, Katie, Tim, Makayla, and Aidan and the great grandfather of Charlotte and Everly.
Jim worked in the aircraft industry and retired from a career as a talented machinist with Boeing after 32 years. Jim was the epitome of a renaissance man. If it needed fixed, he fixed it. If it needed built, he built it. If he didn’t know how to do, he figured it out. He was a self-made man, a jack-of-all-trades and if you knew him you would agree he was a man clearly running against the wind. He built race cars in his youth, fixed anything that was ever broken, built a home for his family, enjoyed the outdoors, and most of all loved a great rock and roll song, and didn’t mind singing it to you. If you ever knew Jim you know he was often ornery and even a little cantankerous at times, but deep down he had a good heart. Jim instilled in his children a work ethic that was second to none and leaves behind a legacy that emphasizes hard work, attention to detail, and a job well done.
Although he has left us, we are comforted by Jim’s faith and trust in Jesus for his eternal security. Our separation from him is but for a time.
Rosary will be at 10:00 am; Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am, both Friday, December 6, 2019, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
Memorial have been established with: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1223 Madison St., Fredonia, KS 66736; Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

My Thoughts and Prayers are with Joanie and the kids and their families! I’m so sorry for your loss! Your Husband, Dad & Granddaddy was One of a Kind! One of the Good Guys! He will surely be missed….and I’ll cherish all the memories we have with him❤️
Every time I needed something Jim always had the answer. Thanks Jim Rip my friend you were a good neighbor…
Joanie and family, Jim was a good man, but then you know that. He was a good neighbor and friend and had a very beautiful heart. He knew how to listen, and always had time to give you good advise and a smile. Our friendship was not nearly long enough, and his absence will forever leave a big hole in our hearts. It was an honor and a privilege to call him friend. I am so very sorry for your loss. Know that you are not alone. Love, family and friends will get you through this. Sending love and comfort to you and your family. Love, Mike and Tina Kastning
