James M. Stewart, 91, Retired Petroleum Engineer, died Sunday, October 2, 2022. He was born on December 27, 1930 to Lloyd and Emily Stewart in Chanute, KS, and lived most of his life in Wichita.He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in petroleum engineering. He worked for many years in the oil and gas industry in Kansas.Preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice M. Stewart, his sweetheart since 7th grade; parents, Lloyd and Emily Stewart; brother, Jack Stewart.Survived by his children, Tom (Estela) Stewart, David (April) Stewart, and Ann Byerley; grandchildren, Tim (Katrina) Cunningham, Stephanie (Mark) Toland, Sean Stewart, Audrey Stewart, Melody Stewart; great-granddaughter, Rosemary Janice Toland.James was always very supportive of everyone's education and used to love to read to his grandchildren when they were young. He enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and cooking. He perfected his version of Oysters Rockefeller! We will all miss him very much. Private family services.
